Satisfying The Grumbling Tummy: Cereal Treats

I have grown up gobbling my Grandma's timeless Rice Krispie Treats, a favorite among many, and one of the best ways to teach little ones to cook. Or to at least let them help a smidge more than you usually would with any other recipe. Anyways, I have recently discovered a new twist to the traditional recipe of cereal treats, bringing a whole new meaning to the "cereal" factor -- you can use whatever cereal you want! And I have a few tips...

What You Will Need:

Large Saucepan
Stirrer
Measuring Tools
Cupcake Liners

Ingredients:

1 10 oz. bag regular marshmallows or 4 c. mini-marshmallows

3 T. butter or margarine

6 cups Trix (cereal type is your choice; I recommend Trix, Rice Krispies, Cocoa Puffs, Cheerios, or Fruit Loops)

***If you use Cocoa Puffs, or any chocolate cereal, you will need a few tablespoons of peanut butter.

Step #1: In a large saucepan, melt butter on low heat. Add marshmallows. Stir until fully melted. Then, remove from heat.

Step #2: Add cereal, until all is covered in marshmallow.

*** If you are using chocolate cereal, now it the time to add the peanut butter. When I made it, we just guesstimated the amount of peanut butter to use. I'd say roughly 2-3 tablespoons. (If you're wondering why peanut butter, it gives it more fullness and taste than it would without. But all in all, it is your choice.)

Step #3: Now is the time when things get a little messy! Grease your hands with a little butter or cooking spray, like Pam. From multiple accounts of experience, apply generously!

*Be careful, the mix might still be a little hot!

Step #3.5: With your greasy hands, grab a small handful -- not too big, not too small -- roll into a ball, and place into the cupcake liners. The ball should not stick to your hand. If it does, apply more butter or spray to your hands.

Step #4: Wait about 30 minutes to let the treats sit and cool down. Then, you have a quick easy delicious little treat.

If you choose to use a more healthy cereal, such as Cheerios or Fruit Loops even, these make for the perfect out-the-door, in-a-hurry, breakfast. It is cereal, after all!

Now, I certainly cannot take all the credit. I found this recipe on a blog called, Kathie Cooks. Below is a link to the original website/recipe. The pictures I used also came from her page. Thank you Kathie! My grumbling tummy thanks you also...
