The Christian Book-Worm: Favorite Christian Authors

Before I started writing this blog, I used to scour the Internet trying to find new books to read, hopefully with a Christian twist. If you are that person, looking everywhere for a great author that writes great books, WITH a Jesus-lovin' feel to it -- Here's a couple authors to get you started!

Age groups not identified. Talk to your parents about what is appropriate for you.

Dandi Daley Mackall ~ Author of over 300 titles, she writes for all age groups. There is a fairly wide variety of genres in her writing, but the most common topic is animals, such as horses, or veterinary clinics. Some titles include, Cinnamon Lake Series, Backyard Horses, Blog On!, Starlight Animal Rescueand Crazy In Love. All listed titles are series, except Crazy In Love.

I personally have read the Starlight Animal Rescue series and the Blog On! series. I thought they were good, but I, not being much of an "animal person", didn't really connect with the characters as well as others might.

Nancy Rue ~  Nope, not Nancy Drew! Not a sleuth, but a writer. She has written well over 100 books, ranging from tween advice and fiction, to adult fiction and parenting books. A few books are The Lucy Novels, The Lily Novels, The Beauty Book, the Real Life series, and The Whole Guy Thing: What Every Girl Needs To Know About Crushes, Friendship, Relating, And Dating. There are no adult titles listed here.

I read quite a bit of Nancy Rue as a tween, and really enjoyed her writing style. I highly recommend her books! The non-fiction books are mostly dealing with the struggles and changes that a girl experiences with, well, being a girl, and she really zeroes in on how God matters in even the things and situations we don't necessarily give Him credit for caring about.

Melody Carlson ~ If you want to hear it real, Melody Carlson will tell it to you. No sugar coating the life of teenagers for her! Carlson has also wrote over 100 books for women, young children, tweens, and teens. Diary Of A Teenage Girl novels, True Colors series, Carter House Girls series, Girls Of Harbor View series, and True (a teen devotional), are among them. Again, no adult titles, as well as young children's.

If you asked me right now who my favorite author is, I'd immediately respond, "Melody Carlson!". Her writing technique is vivid and real, and the topic of each story is always different in its own way. Now, you must be careful about which books you choose to read. For example, the True Colors series is most definitely a series you'd have to ask your parents about. She holds nothing back, telling of the horrid things that do happen in teen life -- things like drug abuse, body image, etc. Still, the writing is solely founded on God.

Karen Kingsbury ~ If you haven't heard of her, I'd be a smidge surprised! Kingsbury has written 70+ books for people of all ages, and has millions of copies sold. Most of her writing is Christian romance, but you can be sure that all of her writing is Christian. The Chance, This Side Of Heaven, Fifteen Minutes, Sunrise series, and the Bailey Flanigan series, are a few of her titles.

My mom read a lot of Kingsbury's books, and right now I am actually reading Between Sundays, and its pretty awesome! Her writing style feels a smidge different to me than the other authors I've read, but its a good kind of different.

Robin Jones Gunn ~ Author of 82 books, for children and young adults. Some of her works of art include, the Christy Miller series, the Sisterchicks series, Victim Of Grace, Praying For Your Future Husband, and the Glenbrook series.

I have never read any of Gunn's books, but I am familiar with the Christy Miller series. A friend of mine read them, so I got to hear all the positive notes she had to say about the series. Her most popular genre is basically realistic fiction.

I know this list isn't super long, but I hope it helps you discover a whole lot more! I forgot one book. Can you guess? The Bible! Read your Bible, 'cause its truly the only book that will give you the best advice, share the best stories, and show you Jesus!

So, what authors and books have you read? Like or dislike? Comment!
